Lesson 1: Brace

Flexion for softness

Using Flexion to Reduce Brace in Denny the Braced Brumby

I usually don’t worry about flexion too much. It is often over used and used incorrectly (turning a vacant head until they are like spaghetti but their mind is elsewhere doesn’t really achieve much).

Flexion is necessary in training but the flexion and the angle of their mind needs to be linked with balance. Flexion and softness needs to go all the way through the body, down to their feet.

If a horse carries a lot of brace, I like to move them to help them unlock that brace.

Denny was different. Some horses need more flexion before movement. This is how I used flexion to help him become much softer from his nose to his toes.
